Hospital-Based Medication for Addiction Treatment: Buprenorphine Clinical Application

December 2, 9, and 16 (Wednesdays) 12 - 1pm MT.


This series will focus on the application of Buprenorphine in a hospital setting. Topics include the assessment of OUD, the clinical application of Buprenorphine, considerations related to pain management and the formulation of in-hospital interdisciplinary care.


  • Implement evidence-based strategies for assessing Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) in the hospital setting
  • Describe basic opioid physiology and apply to clinical practice
  • Illustrate the process for starting buprenorphine therapy for hospitalized patients
  • Apply buprenorphine algorithm to patient case
  • Develop a clinical care management plan for acute and perioperative pain for patients engaged in pharmacotherapy for Opioid Use Disorder (OUD)
  • Formulate cross-disciplinary care between hospital medicine, general surgeons, anesthesia, and others.
